Craig
Forsaking a promising career as a one-man band (he plays keyboards, guitar, bass, drums blah blah etc etc), cigarillo-smoking Craig "M.D." Grove is now content to tinkle his ivories for our enjoyment. He's also the band's resident producer/sound engineer. A sort of cross between Liberace and Phil Spector of the "Café Crème" set.

But don't be fooled by his youthful appearance, Craig's musical career spans 3 decades (just about) and numerous musical projects before Strangetown. Who can forget that appearance at the Barrel Organ, Digbeth in early 80's with "The Room Above"? Now, hands up all those who'd LIKE to forget it…..

Since forming Strangetown, Craig has formed his own band of travelling strippers who occasionally show up (and show it all) at gigs, before boarding the coach at gunpoint and returning to their hovels.

Craig's hobbies include chasing parked cars and breeding racing slugs.

Geoff

Geoff "I don't do Thursdays" Moore first came to our attention playing in the Kidderminster area with his band 'Pork-Sword and the Phantom Whistler', and it became obvious to us that his bass playing skills were second only to his uncanny, radar-like ability to spot pubs which are about to begin a major brawl, and then take us in there.

He plays bass like a virtuoso (saxophonist), and is the inventor of a little-known stringed instrument called the Fretto which he is hoping to market through high-street giants Netto. "It seemed to be the obvious outlet for my instrument but I'm going to have a tougher time finding a shop who will want to sell my new mains-powered flute for people with a high IQ - the Sparks and Mensa" he stated recently.

Rumour has it that Geoff once played 2 songs consecutively without stopping for a roll-up (unconfirmed).

Geoff also enjoys many hours making rusty motor bikes look even rustier and then riding them with no saddle on weekend mystery trips "I've been to Worcester loads of times but I've never come this way before" he said.

James

Embarrasing write-up to follow as soon as we have some dirt on the squeaky-clean git......

Jason
Lightning-fingered Jason "RG" Rogers was cunningly tricked into joining the band with promises of covering Steve Vai and Van Halen numbers. Well, it was only half a fib - just watch his face light up when he hears the intro to "Jump".

But he labours on with the band, partly because the band have led him to believe that he signed a lifetime contract whilst under the influence of Banks's Mild.

Despite being a mere whippersnapper compared with the elder statesmen of the band, Jason has previously played with 'After Eden' and 'Equinox' …. And himself.

It has been said that Jason has never recovered from the trauma sustained from nearly being struck by the sharp end of a flying bass string. Counselling is ongoing. He also claims to be unfazed by the advances of a very overweight fan "I try not to let it get on top of me" he says, bravely.

Jason's hobbies include frightening small children and spending hours alone in his room vigorously polishing his instrument.

Andy

Andy "Don't call me Woody" Allen is the backbone of the group and our newest member (so he's a bone and a member... mmm...). He claims his drumming hero is Ringo Starr, so practices his scouse accent whenever possible and talks a lot about small trains!

Andy also spends his weekends scaring small children away from the drums at a nearby music shop and putting non-diesel fluids into his diesel car to see what colour smoke comes out of the engine.

2nd September 2004 Latest developments.... One dark and wet monday night, I was having a chat with our old bass player David. He was telling me that he had got in touch with an old singer friend of ours called Sarah and he was starting a new band - good luck Dave.

Inspired by this I decided to phone Jase as I knew he had plans to start a band with Marcelle. We organised a coffee evening (yeah right!) with Marcelle, Carrie, Jase, myself and a bass player I knew called Stu. On this night Sister Strange was born. We decided to pool our efforts and create a band that had two female front persons (or whatever the correct term is nowadays) and shift the focus of the band to have a female orientated set, lights, dancing, costume changes and wrestling (OK so i lied about the wrestling but it made you look).

Since then we've had a few rehearsals and things are going great, we hope to be gigging within a few weeks, Watch this space (again). The official site for Sister Strange is > www.sisterstrange.co.uk < Click this link to check for latest news, gigs etc.. as strange-town.com will not be updated for very much longer...

9th August 2004 You may have noticed that things have been a bit quiet lately. Well the band officially split on Saturday 7th August for a variety of reasons. I'd llike to personally thank everyone who turned up to gigs - you are the people who made it worthwhile. And of course thanks to everyone who visited this site to view my ramblings.

On a positive note: David and Stu are continuing with their other project. A Kinks / Who / Small Faces tribute band with a working title of 'Who's the Kinky Faces'. Jase is talking to a singer from our past called Marcelle who was instrumental in the forming of Strangetown and was a driving force in our previous band Blondie and Beyond. Anyone who visits Veg's acoustic night will have already heard her.

As for me (Craig), I'm still in close contact with Carrie, Jase and Veg, and I have other projects on the go as well.

Best wishes, watch this space.... I'll be back.... Craig

24th June 2004 For those of you who haven't had chance to hear Carrie yet, we've added a new song in the Downloads section. Many thanks to Saffron Box and Robin Groucutt for their help on this one.

11th June 2004 Thanks to everyone who turned up to our impromptu gig at the Crown last Saturday. Despite it being announced at very short notice, the place was damn full and plenty beer was ingested!

Our drummer (Veg) has started an 'Acoustic Jam' night at the aforementioned Bottom Crown, every Wednesday night (starting about 8:30pm) to give people a chance to get up and play / sing or whatever. Quite a few of us were there this week (9th June) and much fun was had and plenty beer was ingested (again)! So don't be bashful, come and have a go....

4th June 2004 Don't forget, we're playing at the Bottom Crown tomorrow night. The gig was a cancellation so we offered to do it rather than let the venue down. Because we played there recently we're going to alter things a bit so you don't get too bored!!! Hope to see you there...

1st June 2004 Phew what a weekend it's been.... Those of you who came to the Katie's gig on Saturday (a big thank you) saw first hand that Stu wasn't there - he was ill with a capital I, instead it was up to Carrie to be the focal point. So there we were, without a singer and guitarist, half of the songs too low for a female voice, frantically scribbling down chords to songs we've never played before to fill out the set list.... Despite all this, everyone in the audience really enjoyed themselves and had a good night.

Unfortunately we were unable to play at last night's charity gig at the Broadway, Stourbridge (sorry). Carrie was away on holiday and Stu was still ill. The rest of us (David, Craig, Jase and Veg) went to see the other bands though and really enjoyed it. Hope you went too, it was a great night.

27th May 2004 We're returning to Katie Fitzgeralds this Saturday (29th May), starting about 9:00. Carrie's promised to bring her Saxophone :) so miss this at your own peril...

16th May 2004 New... Check out the photos of the gig at the (bottom) Crown, 1st May. This was the first time out for new singer Carrie and she had a fantastic time - indeed we all did. Many thanks to everyone who turned up and the staff at the Crown for making it all possible. A special thank-you goes to Jam Jar Dave (singer from the awesome Cactus Jack) for making an impromptu guest spot and belting out 20th Century boy, Strangetown style.

24th April 2004 Nikki has left the band for pastures new, we wish her well in her new career. We now have an all-new singer who goes by the name of Carrie (check out her profile in the Band Info section to find out more). Her first gig with us will be at the (bottom) Crown on 1st May. You're more than welcome to come along.....

8th April 2004 Don't forget we're playing the Broadway (Stourbridge) on Saturday night. We have the pleasure of being joined by the brilliant Never 11, so it promises to be a great show. See Gig Dates section for more info, hope you can make it...

31st March 2004 Well we've just recovered from a hectic week with a gig on Thursday and Saturday. Saturday's gig was everything we expected from the Crown, plenty of regulars and lots of (drunken) singing and dancing - largely from Jase's brother. We look forward to the 1st May when we play there again in a May-Day party (late bar) with a support band and/or a disco. Hope to see you there...

26th March 2004 Thanks to the audience and staff (esp. Angie) at TC's last night. It's a new venue (about 5 weeks old) but the place is superb. In our opinion TC's is likely to be one of the best venues in Birmingham in the near future. We look forward to playing there again.

PS. Don't forget we're playing at one of our regular haunts - The (bottom) Crown tomorrow night. Be there or be tutted at loudly by Nikki.

13th December 2003 Thanks to everyone who turned up to the gig at the Crown, Old Hill, we had a great time. It really makes it fun for us when the crowd are enjoying themselves so much. Thanks also to the staff for being so accommodating and really pulling out all the stops to make the evening a success.

12th December 2003 For the first time we tried gigging outside of our local area. On this particular night we had a gig at the Unicorn, Telford (many thanks to the staff for having us, and the customers for their support). Although the turnout wasnt massive by any means, the lack of numbers was obliterated by the sheer noise of the audience.'The best band they had ever had there'. A big thank you!
